I moved my four succulents under a growlight in my room to prep them for summer! (Formal introduction of the far right coming soon.) Germinating some chamomile, lavender, and spearmint seeds, listed from left to right. These are all hard to germinate, so I hope I get some sprouts!

Feburary 10th, 2016 I’m not sure if this method of germinating is exactly effective. It’s not the most taken route for germinating seeds, but I read somewhere that lavender seeds need heat to germ…. I think I’m going to soak the paper towels and put each one in a ziplock bag and keep it either under the light for heat or near it in a dark place.

This is my Trihocereus species cactus; she flowers vibrant orange blossoms in the summer. She was my second cactus and reaches about 5" tall. She was bought last year at some convienience store and is doing quite well on the windowsill of our kitchen, which doesn’t get much sunlight. I water her more often than the male, because she’s not in an enclosed container like him - the bottom of hers is open and allows more drainage. She is a smooth dark color and I hope she doesn’t sunbleach in the future. I plan to replant her this summer; the poor baby must be suffocating in such a small container. She’s one of the most beautiful.

February 7th, 2016 This is my second succulent - the first died in my greenhouse, but it was my sister’s. I got him a month ago in Kroger in the clearance isle. They seemed so sad and untended for - I had to get one. I forget his species as well. I water him once every two weeks, 60ml. He’s doing fantastic and is recovering well from the poor environment he came from.

He has never flowered, but has grown quite a lot in size - this is why I’m assuming he’s the male of his species, whatever that may be. I’ve taken good care of him. He spends most of his days inside, but in the summer months I’ll set him outside or put him in my greenhouse. He’s my favourite so far.

Hello there, I’m Ceds. I try to be a botanist, and sometimes I succeed. Last year I had a massive herb garden with peppermint, lemon balm, spearmint, rosemary, dill, sweet marjoram, chives, stevia and much more. I even had a garlic plant for a few months, until it withered and died from its lack of sunlight; I had planted it early summer last year, and it had just begun to sprout in October. It died last month. I own three cacti I didn’t grow myself, and they’re doing quite well. I don’t know the species of any of them.

I love to read books and take long periods of time to sit and watch nature after a hike in my backyard forested hills. I love to watch shows, philosophize, write, and tell my story. I own a miniature greenhouse. A hamster whom I call Babe lives with me in my room; she is the best of friends to me. I love style - my own style, that is. Philosophy is basically the most thing I’m interested in, especially the philosophy surrounding nature, plants, and animals. I look forward to blogging my experience in the next few years attempting to grow not only my plants, but myself as a spirit as well.

This year I’m going to be receiving assorted species of cacti and succulent seeds, plus some Gibbaeum Comptonii, or “living stones” in March. I’ll buy some more herb seed packets to add to my frozen herb seeds from last year to start planting again before spring. My goal is to get some lavender sprouted - none were successful last year. I found some really cute old teacups and pots to plant in! I will introduce you to my ‘already cacti’ and show you my cute planters when I can.
